All courses have orientation either the week before or on the first day of the course. International Services staff will be at orientation to assist all new International Students at Yeronga Institute of TAFE.

Student Services Unit

International students are supported in their studies by the Institute Student Services Unit, which provides free services to international students including:

  • Counselling with personal and educational issues affecting your study
  • Learning Support for students requiring extra assistance in their studies
  • Tutorial assistance in addition to the support of teachers and staff
  • Student Activities providing opportunities to participate in sporting and cultural events
  • Job Placement service for students looking for casual work to supplement their studies
  • Access to prior examination papers for study purposes.

Other Facilities

International Course Pricelist

COURSE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
When assessing an application for entry to a formal course in Yeronga Institute of TAFE, a number of factors are considered. Generally, applicants must satisfy Academic and English entry requirements.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must provide authorised original documentary evidence (or certified copies) of meeting the academic requirements. In order to enter a Diploma completion of year 12 or equivalent is required. To enter a Certificate requires the successful completion of year 10 or equivalent. Individuals above school leaving age, regardless of educational background are encouraged to enquire about admission into the courses. An Offer will remain conditional on satisfying academic and English requirements until the appropriate documentary evidence is presented.

English Language Requirements

All applicants must satisfy one of the following English language proficiency requirements. Please note, English language test results are valid for 2 years only.

IELTS (academic module) - score of 5.5 (with no individual band score less than 5) for Diploma level courses and score of 5.0 for certificate level courses

Proof that the applicant has studied in English for 5 years or more in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and South Africa

Occupational English Test (OET) – score “pass”

TOEFL - score 530 or 197 (computer based score)

Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating (ASLPR)- minimum individual score of 3

TAFE Queensland Certificate IV in English

First Cambridge Certificate of English, 'A' or 'B' grade

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English

Sound Achievement or equivalent in Australian Year 12 English (must be Board of Studies English for Queensland high schools)

Sound Achievement in both Year 11 and 12 in English Communication as specified by the Board of Senior Studies, Queensland

Successful completion of an acceptable formal course (not ELICOS) where the medium of instruction throughout is English

Please note, for some countries DIMIA requirement for issuing a student visa is IELTS (academic module) – score of 5.5 or OET – score “pass” only and for other countries TOEFL is an acceptable alternative. Please check with Yeronga Institute of TAFE whether this applies to your country.

Student Transferring from an Australian High School

Applicants wishing to transfer from High school to Yeronga Institute of TAFE before completing their studies must satisfy the entry requirements outlined above, as well as obtain from the principal of the school;

• written permission to transfer or a Letter of Release; and
• a Statement of Attendance.

Student Transferring from other Australian Institutions

Applicants wishing to transfer from an Australian institution to Yeronga Institute of TAFE must satisfy the entry requirements outlined above and provide;

• a Letter of Release from the exiting institution; and
• a Statement of Attendance from the exiting institution.

When a student transfers from an Australian High School or from other Australian Institutions the written permission to transfer, letter of release and statement of attendance will be used by Yeronga Institute of TAFE to determine:

• the student has demonstrated a commitment to studies in that previous course;
• had a good attendance record for that course; and
• had paid all fees for that course.

 

THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE IF YOU ARE APPLYING FROM OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA LEVEL 1 & 2 COUNTRIES

1. Complete a Yeronga Institute of TAFE International Student Program Application form. You will need these supporting documents:
• Educational Certificate and academic history
• Evidence of employment history (if applicable)
• English language test results (IELTS, TOEFL, ASLPR) if applicable
• References from employers (if applicable)
• Copy of your passport

FAX OR AIRMAIL THIS INFORMATION TO YERONGA INSTITUTE OF TAFE

2. You will receive an ‘Offer of Place’. Before the expiry date on this offer you should:
• Pay tuition fees and overseas health cover as stated in the offer of place
• Read the attached Refund and Transfer Policy, the Dispute Resolution Policy, sign and return
• Send the required documentation to show that conditions have been met (if your offer is conditional). If you cannot provide this documentation before the expiry date, please contact Yeronga Institute of TAFE.

3. Yeronga Institute of TAFE will send you:
• a receipt of payment
• Confirmation of enrolment for International students form
• OSHC brochure.

We will send your OSHC payment and details to Medibank Private one month before your course starts, we will also send you a letter detailing the course dates and orientations.

If you currently studying in Brisbane, you must make an appointment with an International Students Officer to receive your Confirmation of Enrolment and to extend your student visa. You must bring to the appointment:
• Your passport with the current student visa
• Your Medibank Private card
• A statement of Attendance.


4. Apply for your Student Visa.
The Australian Embassy must see your:
• Receipt from Yeronga Institute of TAFE
• Confirmation of Enrolment for International Students form
• Offer of Place form.

5. Arrange your travel after collecting your student visa.

6. You arrive in Queensland.

7. Start classes on the first day of your courses, including orientation.

8. Complete an application for OSHC. The International Students Officer will give you this form and take this along with a copy of your passport to Medibank Private. Your membership card will be sent to the address on the OSHC application form 3-4 weeks later. If you do not receive your Medibank card contact the International Students Officer.

 

THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY STUDYING IN AUSTRALIA

 

1. Complete a Yeronga Institute of TAFE International Programme Application form. You will need these supporting documents:

• Educational Certificate and academic history
• English language test results (IELTS, TOEFL, ASLPR) if applicable
• A Letter of Release and a Letter of Attendance from your previous Institution (if applicable)
• Evidence of employment history (if applicable).

FAX, MAIL OR DELIVER THIS INFORMATION TO YERONGA INSTITUTE OF TAFE

2. You will receive an ‘Letter of Offer’. Before the expiry date on this offer you should:

• Pay tuition fees as stated in the offer of place
• Read the attached Refund and Transfer Policy, the Dispute Resolution Policy, sign and return
• Send the required documentation to show that the conditions have been met (if your offer is conditional). If you cannot provide this documentation before the expiry date, please contact Yeronga Institute of TAFE.

3. Make an appointment with the International Students Officer to receive your Confirmation of Enrolment and to extend your student visa and OSHC (if applicable). You must bring to the appointment:

• Your passport with the current (student) visa
• Your Medibank Private card
• A Statement of Attendance.

4. Complete an application for OSHC. The International Students Officer will give you this form to take along with a copy of your passport to Medibank Private. Your membership card will be sent to the address on the OSHC application form 3-4 weeks later. If you do not receive your card contact the International Students Officer. (optional – only for student visa)

5. Attend Orientation Day prior to the start of classes.

6. Start classes on the first day of your course.
