Student Visa Australia
Visa requirements
Student visa conditions
Your student visa is managed by the Australian Government department called the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). To obtain a student visa, you must meet the conditions of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
There may also be special conditions for students on scholarships. Make sure you read and understand all the conditions of your scholarship, or else your visa may be cancelled and you may be prevented from entering the country.
Non-compliance
When you receive your visa, you will also receive a letter of approval. This letter will explain all of the conditions of your student visa. It is important you read and understand all of these conditions, and follow them.
If you break any of your student visa conditions your student visa will be cancelled, and you may have to leave the country. If this occurs, you also may be prevented from entering the country again for three years.
If any of your circumstances change, for example, you want to change courses, or you need to stay longer, you must contact your local DIAC office and make the appropriate arrangements. If your student visa expires for more than 28 days and you do not renew your visa and remain in Australia, you may be prevented for returning for three years.
Extending your visa
Alternatively if your student visa expires and you have not finished your course or studied, you can apply for a new one at the Australian Mission or Embassy in your home country as well as your local immigration office in Australia.
