Overseas Student Health Cover
Australia’s health cover for international students is called the Overseas Student Health Cover and is compulsory to have before you can enter the country. The DIAC are requires you to maintain OSHC for the duration of your student visa in Australia.
There are four major providers of OSHC insurance in Australia. You may decide to choose what insurance provider to choose from. Your OSHC will help pay for any medical or hospital fees that you may need to pay whilst you’re studying in Australia. It will contribute to the cost of most prescription medicines, and an ambulance if needed, in an emergency.
OSHC insurance does not cover dental, optical, or physiotherapy. If you want to be covered for these treatments you will need to buy additional private health insurance, such as
- Extra OSHC cover provided.
- International travel insurance.
- General treatment covers with any Australian private health insurer.
